Skin Care Routine to Improve Your Skin In 7 Days

Great looking skin usually doesn’t just happen by chance - it's a combination of daily skin care habits, lifestyle, hydration, nutrition, and genetics. What do you see when you look in the mirror? Is it possible that a well-crafted skin care routine is missing from YOUR daily habits? Aside from beauty, having a daily skin care routine at home is essential for the health and function of your skin, which is the largest organ in your body!

Basic Skincare Guidelines

The amount of beauty and skincare products out there can feel overwhelming, so here are some guidelines to help you choose the best quality products for your skin.

Look for clean, non-toxic ingredients for skincare support that won’t add extra toxins into your body. Unfortunately, the FDA allows these chemicals to be included into products, that are known to cause cancer:

  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Formaldehyde
  • Lead

Unsure about the potential toxicity of a product? Use the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database to check out how your current personal care products rank and to investigate new clean, non-toxic options.

Then, use this daily skin care routine at home to nourish your skin from the inside out, so you can take time to cherish yourself, appreciate your body, and build confidence to let your inner beauty shine to the world around you. This means that eating a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and limiting toxins like alcohol, tobacco, and sugar are also necessary to get your skin feeling and looking its best!

Morning Skincare Routine

Start each morning with care! Hydrate after waking, and head to the sink to start your skin care routine.

#1 Wash Your Face

First, wash your face. Some people may prefer just to rinse their face off with water in the morning, but cleansing first thing can help remove any bacteria that you acquired overnight from your pillowcase. If you choose to wash with a cleaners, use something very gentle, so that you don’t strip your natural oils and overly dry out your skin. Choosing a good morning cleanser depends on what kind of skin you have, for instance:

#2 Use a Toner

After cleansing, apply an alcohol-free toner because it refreshes your skin after it’s been washed. It also prepares skin for absorbing moisture from a moisturizer. Some products that we recommend are:

If you want to choose a different one that’s totally fine, just make sure it’s alcohol-free so that it won’t overly dry out your skin!

#3 Apply Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is an incredible antioxidant that benefits the health of your whole body, including your skin! Vitamin C boosts collagen production, which declines as you age and causes your skin to lose it’s youthful glow. It also reduces redness on the skin and can help fade the appearance of scars. Including in it your morning and night routine are great ways to improve your complexion! These are some serums that we recommend, regardless of skin type:

#4 Apply Eye Cream

The skin under the eyes is very thin and sensitive, making it susceptible to dryness and wrinkling as we age. Keeping the area around your eyes extra moisturized with eye cream can help slow it’s aging and keep it firmer. Some options that we recommend are:

#5 Use Moisturizing Skincare

Now that you’ve applied a toner, vitamin C serum, and eye cream, you’re ready to moisturize the rest of your face. Moisturizing is important for keeping your skin balanced and should always be a part of your daily skincare routine, no matter what kind of skin you have. Since washing your face can partially dry it out, not moisturizing can cause oily-prone skin to overreact to the dryness by producing too much oil, leady to an oily day. If you have dry skin, not moisturizing leads to an even drier, flaky day. Moisturizing also helps protect any blemishes on your skin and helps reduce the chances of them turning into a scar:

#6 Apply Sunscreen (30+ SPF)

Using sunscreen everyday or atleast on the days you are outside is a great way to help reduce sun damage and keep your skin youthful. Even on cloudy days, UV rays still reach your skin! Although it depends on where you live and what time of year it is for how much SPF you will need, aim for at least 30 SPF. Finding a quality sunscreen that doesn’t have harmful ingredients can be hard, but here’s some of the cleanest ones:

  1. BeautyCounter CounterSun
  2. Solara Suncare

#7 Bonus Skincare Tip - Use Lip Balm

Lips are skin too! They tend to get dried out and cracked much faster than our facial skin, so make it a habit to apply some lip balm before starting your day! Throw it in your bag after so that you have it throughout the day and avoid licking your lips when they feel dry, which feels soothing but actually dries them out further. Here are some awesome recommendations to keep your lips happy:

Nighttime Skincare Routine

It’s the end of a long day and your skin has experienced wear and tear. Make sure you give it a little TLC before bed! Your skin care routine for night is similar to your routine from the morning, with a few different tweaks. Use the same products that you did for morning steps that have the same name as the night ones.

#1 Wash Your Face

Use the same cleanser that you did during the morning. If this isn’t strong enough to remove any makeup worn that day, you may want to first use a makeup remover.

#2 Use an Exfoliating Facial Scrub

After cleansing, you may want to use an exfoliator to get rid of extra dead skin cells and bacteria build up from the day. However, limit this to only 2-3 times per week as it can be abrasive to your skin. Here are some of our favorites:

#3 Use a Toner

#4 Apply a Vitamin C Serum

#5 Moisturize!

#6 Apply an Antioxidant Facial Oil

In addition to moisturizer, facial oil before bed can help combat overnight skin dryness that leads to wrinkles. Oils can pass through the skin quickly to keep the skin plump and prevent water loss, keeping your skin smooth. The antioxidants can help boost collagen production and strengthen skin elasticity! Here’s come great oils that we recommend:

  1. akar Soothe Face Oil
  2. Kypwell Deep Dreams - Holistic Infusion Face Oil
